After two years of virtual conferences, the return of an in-person Maximo Utility Working Group (MUWG) conference was worth the wait. The excitement in the room was palpable; everyone was engaged and ready to talk Maximo.
Geonexus, a proud sponsor of the conference, took note of a few key themes that were apparent throughout the four-day event. The first theme was the buzz around the new Maximo Application Suite, and the second focused on the role of GIS in Asset Management.
Maximo Application Suite (MAS) or Maximo 8 was once again a heavy focal point of the MUWG conference. MAS is a unified, cloud-based platform that brings together multiple applications into one user interface and comes with a new licensing structure. IBM also announced that the end of life for Maximo 7.6.x is September 2025, so the countdown to the move to MAS has officially started.
Our partner Maven wrote an informative, in-depth blog post on the move to MAS and how it might affect your organization.
The sessions focused on the role of GIS in Asset Management piqued our interest throughout the conference. Presentations covered a wide range of topics, including how an organization uses an integrated Maximo and ArcGIS Portal to enable drone and Maximo mobile functionality to create proactive maintenance work orders. One presentation featured an innovative solution demonstration by Metropolitan Sewer District, which integrated data from various operational systems into an Esri Web Map. Another session focused on Esri’s Utility Network and what that means to Maximo users.
Geonexus was featured in one session centered on GIS and Maximo that was presented by our customer Bart Hewitt at Cobb County Water System (CCWS). The presentation focused on how CCWS redefined their integration strategy for connecting Esri ArcGIS and Maximo by leveraging the Geonexus Integration Platform. There was a great deal of audience participation with discussion on system of record, work order management in Maximo, and much more.
In his presentation, Bart drew attention to the importance of alignment between the GIS and Maximo teams. This was apparent in other GIS/Maximo-focused sessions as well. Having this partnership allows organizations to understand the strengths of the systems and the opportunities available for bolstering robust asset management.
